Next Era Energy Resources (NEER) is the new name for FPL Energy, the subsidiary of Florida Power and Light Group. The name has been changed to reflect what the firm calls its "clean energy mission."

One measure the firm is taking to spread awareness of its new identity is to sponsor the Daytona and Miami-Homestead speedways. NEER is to be the official provider of renewable energy to the racing car tracks.

The company has 16,674 MWe of power generation assets, including 70%, 88% and 100% ownerships of the Seabrook, Duane Arnold and Point Beach nuclear power plants, which together contribute 2540 MWe to that. Point Beach was purchased in 2007 for around $1 billion.

The largest share of NEER's generation portfolio comes from gas (6636 MWe), while its wind energy fleet across the USA and Canada reaches a theoretical maximum of 6120 MWe.

Another subsidiary of FPL Group, called Florida Power and Light (FPL), owns the Turkey Point and St. Lucie nuclear power plants. Two new reactors are planned for Turkey Point around 2018 and 2020.
