New uranium mill planned for Colorado

Energy Fuels announced that it had acquired some 1000 acres (400 ha) of land near Naturita, Colorado, USA, where it plans to construct its Pinon Ridge uranium mill. The company said that the mill - the first uranium mill to be constructed in the USA in 25 years - will be designed as a state-of-the-art conventional uranium/vanadium mill. Initial engineering studies indicate that the Pinon Ridge mill will be designed with a capacity of 1000 tonnes per day of ore throughput. At historical U3O8 grades typical in the region, the mill will be designed to produce between 725 tonnes U3O8 (615 tU) and 900 tonnes U3O8 (770 tU) annually, in addition to some 2270-3630 tonnes of vanadium oxide annually. Energy Fuels plans to submit the mill licence application in approximately 12 months. Mill licence review and approval are expected to require about 16 months from the time of application submittal. The company anticipates that mill operations will commence in 2010. Energy Fuels has more than 38,000 acres (15,200 ha) of prospective uranium and vanadium property located in Colorado, Utah and Arizona.
