Power Machines awarded $1.7 billion contract

28 May 2008

Russian power plant equipment company Power Machines has signed a contract with AtomEnergoProm  for the supply of basic power equipment for the second phases of both the Novovoronezh and Leningrad nuclear power plant.

Two 1200 MWe VVER pressurized water reactors are being constructed at each of the Novovoronezh and Leningrad plants. The first unit of phase two of Novovoronezh is scheduled to start operating in 2012, while the second unit will begin in 2013. At Leningrad, the first new unit is scheduled to begin operating in 2013 and the second in 2014.

Under the terms of the contract, valued at over 40 billion roubles ($1.7 billion) Power Machines will design, fabricate and deliver four sets of steam turbines, condensers and auxiliaries for turbine systems, as well as four sets of turbine generators with auxiliaries and exciters. The company will also supply turbine, heat exchange and pumping equipment, piping and fittings.

The high-speed steam turbines and turbine generators are a new product from Power Machines and have been designed for a new generation of nuclear power plants that are being constructed within the framework of the nuclear energy development program that Russia formally adopted in 2006.

The design and manufacturing technologies of the K-1200-6.8/50 turbines are based on those produced for the Kudankulam plant that Russia is constructing in India and the Tianwan plant in China.

The TZV-1200-2 turbine generators being designed and manufactured by Power Machines for use in phase two of the Novovoronezh and Leningrad plants are a new-generation of turbine generators that will be fully water-cooled.
