Westinghouse boss announces retirement

10 January 2012

Westinghouse has announced that its president and CEO, Aris Candris, will retire at the end of March 2012, but will remain as a senior advisor to the company. Candris became president and CEO of Westinghouse in July 2008, having first joined the company in 1975 as a senior engineer in the former Advanced Reactor Division. Chairman of Westinghouse's board of directors Shigenori Shiga commented: "The recent US Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval of the final design of the AP1000 nuclear power plant, the imminent approval of construction of the first new nuclear plants in the USA in 30 years, and the ongoing construction of the first phase of four nuclear plants in China caps Dr Candris' magnificent career with Westinghouse." Candris will be succeeded by Jim Ferland as president and CEO and Ricardo Perez as president and chief operating officer. Ferland currently serves as president for the Americas region, while Perez is president of operations.
