Westinghouse gets Aggressive, CIA school

19 November 2007

Westinghouse has announced the acquisition of Carolina Energy Solutions (CES) and an extention to its agreement with control system provider Emerson. CES supplies welding and machining services for a wide range of energy industries and its acquisition also brings affiliates Aggressive Equipment and the Construction Institute of America (CIA). All three entities are to be brought into Westinghouse's existing WEC Welding and Machining business. Jimmy Morgan, the business's President said the acquisition "positions the company to continue supporting the operating nuclear fleet, while ramping up resources to meet the demands of new nuclear construcion." A Westinghouse statement highlighted the "strategically important" addition of the CIA Welding School, which produces 120-150 apprentice welders per year. Westinghouse's other news, a ten-year contract extension with Emerson should see that company's Ovation control and information system used in forthcoming AP1000 nuclear power plant sales. The two companies have had a close relationship since Emerson bought Westinghouse's non-nuclear instrumentation and control business in 1998. Westinghouse is contracted to provide four AP1000s in China and involved in projects aiming to build 12 more in the USA.
