Areva president and CEO Luc Oursel passes away

Luc Oursel, president and CEO of Areva, has died, the company said yesterday.
"All of our thoughts are with his wife, his children and his family," the French nuclear engineering company said, adding that it commended his "engagement and courage during his seven years with us." Oursel worked "tirelessly for the development of Areva's business, in service to his country."
Areva announced on 20 October that, for health reasons, Oursel considered he was no longer able to maintain his responsibilities as CEO. "I must now fight a personal battle against the illness, but all of my thoughts remain with the teams at Areva. I have been happy and proud to mobilize them in the difficult context for the turnaround of the company, for the benefit of the country, and I am convinced that they will succeed," Oursel said in the same statement.
The nature of Oursel’s illness was not disclosed.
Philippe Knoche, Areva's chief operating officer, took over as acting chairman. The company's board is due to meet in the coming weeks to appoint a new CEO and chairman.
