Contractual details finalised for Tianwan phase II

27 June 2011

The general contract for the construction of the second phase of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China can enter into force following the signature of a final agreement defining commercial terms and payment details by Russia's AtomStroyExport and the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC). A general contract for units 3 and 4, which make up phase II of the Tianwan plant, was signed by the two companies in November 2010. Tianwan phase II, like phase I, will comprise two Russian-designed VVER-1000 units with non-nuclear plant designed and supplied by JNPC. The contract to build the two VVER-1000s is now expected to enter into force no later than the first half of August 2011, when project finance and equipment ordering can begin. First concrete is scheduled for Tianwan 3 in December 2012.
