Largest IAEA operation to remove disused sources

Source container shipment from Paraguay - 48The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has helped remove 27 disused highly radioactive sources - mainly used for medical purposes such as treating cancer and sterilising instruments - from five South American countries. It was the largest such project facilitated by the IAEA in terms of both the number of sources and countries involved.

ARRN-Rosatom - September 2017 - 48Russia and Paraguay have signed an agreement on cooperation for peaceful use of nuclear power. The document was signed yesterday, in Vienna, during the 61st International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference, by Alexey Likhachov, director-general of Rosatom, and César Cardozo Román, minister and executive secretary of the National Radiological and Nuclear Control Agency of Paraguay.
