US uranium output rises in 2006

[EIA, 13 February] The USA produced 1870 tonnes U3O8 (1586 tU) in 2006 – a 53% increase on output in 2005, according to preliminary data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). As of the end of 2006, there were five in-situ leach mines in operation (Crow Butte, Alta Mesa, Smith Ranch-Highland, Kingsville Dome and Vasquez) with a total annual production capacity of 4130 tonnes U3O8 (3500 tU). There was also one uranium mill (White Mesa) in operation, with a capacity of 2000 tonnes of ore per day.
