Iran and EU fix date for meeting

20 April 2007

[Reuters, 20 April] Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana have agreed to meet on 25 April to discuss Iran's controversial enrichment programme. The meeting will consist of preliminary discussions, with a view to the possibility of restarting negotiations. Larijani and Solana agreed the meeting by telephone in the latest of a series of contacts since the UN imposed sanctions on Iran after it refused to abandon its uranium enrichment programme. An IAEA report this week confirmed that over 1300 uranium enrichment centrifuges are now running at Iran's Natanz enrichment plant.
