Sweden & Poland linked to Lithuanian NPP

26 March 2007

[Kommersant - 24 March] The Lithuanian government is reportedly launching a program to merge private and state energy companies in preparation for construction of a new nuclear power plant at Novo-Ignalinsk. The plant would export electricity to Poland and Sweden. As previously reported by WNN, Latvia and Estonia were lined up to be involved in the new plant project. However, that deal was in doubt after Lithuania sold 22 percent of the output of the station to Poland. The new energy enterprise, Lietuvos energija, will include the state enterprise of electric distribution network Rytu skirstomieji tinklai (RST) and similar private enterprise Vakaru skirstomieji tinklai (VST). The Lithuanian government will own at least 51% of the new enterprise. The new enterprise will be in charge of seeing the new NPP built by 2015 and new power lines to Poland and Sweden being installed by 2013.
