Six shortlisted to manage Sellafield

[NDA, 26 March] Six organizations have pre-qualified as bidders to manage the Sellafield site, the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced. They are: CH2M Hill International Services Ltd; Energy Solutions EU Ltd; Fluor Ltd, in partnership with Toshiba; Jacobs Engineering Group Inc; SBB Nuclear, a consortium consisting of Serco, Bechtel and BWXT Nuclear Services; and Washington International Ltd/AMEC Nuclear Holdings Ltd/Areva NC. They are bidding for the Sellafield Parent Body Organization (PBO), which will own the shares in the Sellafield Site Licence Company for an initial period of 5 years which could be extended to 17 years in total. After initial dialogue and selection phases, final tenders will be invited in the last quarter of 2007, with the contract due to be awarded to the successful bidder in mid-2008. As well as the Sellafield site, with its spent fuel processing and MOX fabrication facilities and decommissioning projects, the licence company also covers the Windscale, Capenhurst and Calder Hall sites.
