DeVore fights on in California

12 July 2007

Californian assemblyman Chuck DeVore has continued his fight to have the state's moratorium on nuclear power lifted. He previously introduced legislation to remove the prerequisite for a full used nuclear fuel disposal that currently bars new nuclear plants in California, but this failed in April. Now, as part of his Power for California initiative, he plans to submit a ballot to voters to "allow the construction of new, safe, and reliable nuclear power plants" to "reduce California's carbon footprint." In order to put the motion to voters as part of June 2008 primary elections, DeVore must put together a 500,000 signature petition. To make sure, DeVore is aiming for 1 million signatures.
