Belarus nuclear plant tender due soon

Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said Friday 29 June that a tender will soon be announced for the country's first nuclear power plant. A potential construction site is already being selected. The project is expected to lead to the commissioning of two units with a combined capacity of 1000 MWe between 2013-15, with two more units planned for operation by 2025. France and Russia are the likeliest partners for the project, according to Belarussian officials. The announcement maintains the strong political drive to develop nuclear power in Belarus, although recent announcements by President Lukashenko and others have given slightly different start-up dates for the reactors.
