India to start construction of AHWR in 2007

[Ux Weekly, 8 January] Construction of India's first advanced heavy water reactor (AHWR), using a thorium fuel cycle, will reportedly start during 2007. Anil Kakodkar, head of India's Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), has stated that a pre-licensing review of the new 300 MWe reactor is currently being undertaken by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. The location where the reactor will be built has yet to be announced.
