British nuclear workers scale new heights
23 January 2009

[Lancashire Evening Post, 23 January] Workers from the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), based at Springfields, Preston, have between them climbed a combined height higher than Mount Everest in a single day. They managed to climb 11,960 metres in eight hours. Everest is 8848 metres high. The NNL workers were taking part in a sponsored climb - known as 'The Climb Everest Challenge' - in aid of charity. Eleven teams, which also included employees from the Risley and Sellafield nuclear sites, climbed a total of 73,500 metres at climbing centres across the north-west of England. Alison Richardson, human resources manager at Preston, commented: "The Climb Everest Challenge has been a success with so many taking it incredibly seriously."
