13 February 2009

Dmitry Semenov, an engineer in the Electric Department of the Leningrad nuclear power plant in Russia, has won two gold medals and a silver medal at the Masters World Cup cross country skiing contest in Autrans, France. He came first in the 10 km freestyle and was also in the winning Russian team in the 4x5 relay. He also came second in the 30 km freestyle event. At a press conference following the contest, Semenov said, "It was tandem of youth and experience." He is not only a talented skier, having also won competitions in athletics, orienteering, shooting and polyathlon. The Masters World Cup contest, which has been held annually since 1992, is between amateur sportsmen over 30 years old who have not represented their national teams for over two years. Another Leningrad employee, head of the Department of International and Foreign Economic Cooperation Vladimir Mineev, also competed in the contest.
