Areva signs Mongolian memorandum

French nuclear company Areva has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on nuclear energy and radioactive materials cooperation with Mongolia's Atomic Energy Department (AED).

Lauvergeon meets with President Elbegdorj

The agreement was signed by Areva CEO Anne Lauvergeon and AED head S Enkhbat during a visit by Lauvergeon to Mongolia. During her visit, Lauvergeon also met with President Elbegdorj of Mongolia, who described the atomic energy sector as "extremely important" for his country. Elbegdorj underlined Mongolia's continuing willingness to cooperate with experienced countries, such as France, in this sector.
 
Lauvergeon reiterated Areva's interest in increasing its investment in Mongolia and infomed the Mongolian president that her company would "assist Mongolia to train its mining specialists."
 
Lauvergeon's itinerary also included meetings with Mongolia's prime minister and foreign minister.

 

The signing of the MoU with Mongolia comes one day after Lauvergeon and Vladimir Shkolnik, president of KazAtomProm, signed an agreement bewteen the two companies to establish a joint venture to manufacture nuclear fuel from Kazakh uranium using French technology and sell it to the Asian market as an integrated product.
