TVEL and Areva to fuel Sizewell B

[TVEL, 1 June] The contract between TVEL of Russia and France's Areva to supply fuel for British Energy's Sizewell B, the only pressurized water reactor (PWR) in the UK came into force at the end of May. Under the contract, TVEL's subsidiary Mashinostroitelny Zavod (MSZ) will supply fuel pellets to Areva's fuel assembly plant in Lingen, Germany. Shipments of the fuel pellets from MSZ will start in late 2007 or early 2008. The contract is part of a partnership between Areva and TVEL's MSZ which began in 1994. Under this partnership, TVEL supplies 100 tonnes of fuel annually for use in ten reactors in Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands. Over 1000 fuel assemblies for western reactor designs have already been produced by the partnership.
