UK public show strong support for nuclear

11 January 2007

[NIA, 7 December] Some 72% of the UK public believe that nuclear power should form part of a balanced energy mix for the future, according to an opinion poll conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA). 39% of those questioned supported the possible construction of new nuclear power plants in the UK, assuming the same overall proportion of nuclear energy is retained, while just 29% opposed them. Climate change and the effects of global warming were found to be the public’s biggest environmental concern. The survey of 1999 people was conducted in November.
