First steps to building Yingtan plant

28 July 2009

Huaneng Nuclear Power Development Co - a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (CHG) - has opened an office in the city of Yingtan in China's inland Jiangxi province for the development of a new nuclear power plant in the area. At a ceremony on 23 July to mark the opening of the office, joint development agreements were signed between Huaneng and Yingtan city for promoting the construction of the plant. CHG - one of China's major generators - is involved in other nuclear plant projects in China. It holds a 49% stake in the Hainan Nuclear Power Co Ltd joint venture, which was set up to build the Changjiang nuclear power plant on Hainan Island. CHG is also the lead organization with a 47.5% share in the Huaneng Shandong Shidaowan Nuclear Power Co (HSSNPC) joint venture, which is constructing the 210 MWe Shidaowan/Rongcheng HTR-PM demonstration plant in Shandong province. The 4000 MWe Shidaowan/Rongcheng plant, with four AP1000 reactors, is to be a joint venture of the Huaneng Nuclear Power Development Co and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Co (CGNPC), but further partners may become involved as State Council approval is sought.
