Oldbury under examination

20 July 2009

Site investigations are starting for EOn towards possible new build at the Oldbury site in western England. Early next month Hydrock will start a program of geophysical testing with the start of drilling 20 boreholes. Company director Adam Fisher said Hydrock had been working on new nuclear projects for 18 months. EOn and RWE have an agreement to partner on 6000 MWe of new nuclear capacity in the UK. The pair have land alongside the existing Oldbury and Wylfa sites, but will not decide between Areva's EPR and Westinghouse's AP1000 until the end of the Generic Design Assessment process in June 2011.
