US and Chinese regulators cooperate

[NRC, 23 May] A memorandum ofunderstanding has been approved by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commissionand the National Nuclear Safety Administration of China regardingWestinghouse's AP1000 reactor design. Both will continue to exchangeinformation on regulation and standards while a new steering committeeoversees technical cooperation. The NRC's Jeffrey Merrifield said:"This memorandum emphasizes the commitment of both countries to thesafety of nuclear power."
