Energoatom begins EIA for Baltic plant

Russia's Energoatom has begun an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project to build a nuclear power plant in the Kaliningrad region, according to an announcement in the State-published Russian Gazette. The plant, known as the Baltic Nuclear Power Plant, is slated for a 2016 start-up. European utilities are being offered the chance to take a share of up to 49% of the equity in the new plant, which would be situated at Neman, close to the Lithuanian border.
