Bill Coley steps down during integration

30 July 2009

After leading British Energy into a $23 billion takeover deal with EDF Energy, Bill Coley has stepped down from the post of managing director of the existing nuclear fleet. As the integration of the two firms continues, EDF Energy chief executive Vincent de Rivaz expressed his thanks to Coley, saying "he leaves a company that understands the meaning of having nuclear professionals and people who are proud to be working together to safely generate low-carbon electricity." Andy Spurr will take over from Coley as managing director of the existing nuclear portfolio, while Coley told WNN he would move back to the USA with a hope to continue involvement in the nuclear industry, although not in a full time role.
