19 January 2007

[Globe & Mail, 18 January] Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, Gary Lunn, and Minister of the Environment, John Baird, have announced the ecoEnergy Technology Initiative – a C$ 230 million ($196 million) investment over four years for the research, development and demonstration of clean-energy technologies, including next-generation nuclear power. Mr Lunn also suggested the possibility of using nuclear power for extracting oil from Alberta's oil sands, reducing demand for natural gas and cutting CO2 emissions from this.
