Uranium price driving SWU demand

20 March 2007

[Urenco, 20 March] Rising uranium prices helped Urenco to increase its enrichment deliveries by over 28% in 2006, and demand for enrichment is likely to increase further if the uranium price trend continues, the European enrichment company has noted in its 2006 financial results. The year saw increasing demand for SWU as uranium prices continued to rise. Coupled with a 3% increase of its share of the world enrichment market by sales, Urenco’s enrichment deliveries grew to 9.5 million SWU in 2006. The company highlights its growing forward order book - 90% up on 2005 - and the development of two major business areas in 2006: the NEF enrichment plant approaching the beginning of construction in New Mexico, USA; and the establishment of the Enrichment Technology Company, a new joint venture with Areva.
