AEHI considers EPR for Idaho

[AEHI, 15 February] Alternate Energy Holdings Inc (AEHI) has been in discussions with Areva regarding using the 1600 MWe Evolutionary Pressurized Water Reactor (EPR) for its proposed nuclear power plant in Idaho, USA. AEHI believes that "the technological advances, in both plant safety and performance, introduced by the EPR may be a solution to the concerns involved in reinstating commercial nuclear construction in the United States." The company announced last week that it signed an agreement on 1 February with an Idaho farmer to purchase 1600 ha of land on the Snake River in southeastern Idaho, on which the plant would be constructed. The proposed reactor will provide electricity for local farm co-op irrigation, but the majority of output will be sold in the national energy market. It could also be used to co-generate ethanol.
