[White House, 20 March] Duringa speech to workers at a Ford car factory in Claycomo, Missouri, USPresident George Bush discussed initiatives to wean his country fromdependence on imported fossil fuels. On nuclear electricity hesaid: "I strongly believe in nuclear power. If you're somebody who isconcerned about greenhouse gases, it seems like to me that it's logicalthen that you support the use of nuclear power." He went on to say thatnuclear "engineering technologies have developed to the point wherethey're safe" before describing nuclear power as "the ultimate source of renewable fuels." Bush echoed his State of The Union Address in saying "I'm a believer in technologies."
