ONET, CNPEC agree to cooperate

China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate with ONET Technologies of France in a number of fields related to nuclear power plant construction, operation and decommissioning.
The MoU was signed on 11 July by assistant general manager of CNPEC Ltd Wei Lu and president of ONET Technologies Dominique Mouillot. Under the MoU, which has only just been announced, the companies will cooperate in areas including decommissioning of nuclear facilities; decontamination; nuclear waste treatment and management; engineering services for nuclear plants in construction and operation; and nuclear site services for operating nuclear plants. The agreement covers activities in both Europe and China.
According to ONET Technologies, CNPEC - the largest subsidiary of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) - is seeking its assistance as it prepares for the future decommissioning of China's nuclear power plants.
CNPEC general manager Guogang Shu commented, "Our intention is to use the solutions developed by ONET Technologies for the plants we build in China, and the technologies which we will jointly develop during the design of our new plant models."
CGNPC's installed nuclear generating capacity currently stands at 6110 MWe from six operating reactors. The company also has a further 15 reactors under construction with a combined capacity of 17,740 MWe.
