Podcast: Can world's nuclear supply chain meet future demand?

01 November 2023

EDF's Laurent-Olivier Coudeyre, chairman of World Nuclear Association's Supply Chain and Long-Term Operation Working Group, discusses how the supply chain works, the focus on quality and localisation - and future challenges.

Coudeyre sets out details of measures taken to ensure suppliers meet the stringent quality checks needed for nuclear projects and talks about the supply chain development that will be needed in nuclear newcomer countries as well as in countries with plans to expand their nuclear energy capacity. In a wide-ranging interview he also considers what differences there might be between the supply chain for large nuclear, small modular reactors and for Long-Term Operation refurbishment projects.

The staff director of the working group, Nathan Paterson, also outlines some of the key numbers, themes and recommendations from its recently published World Nuclear Supply Chain Report.

Also in this edition, Claire Maden joins host Alex Hunt to report on developments in Canada where Bruce Power is getting the ball rolling for a potential Bruce C plant and Alberta is looking into the possible use of small modular reactors in its oil sands industry.
