Prairie Island uprates approved
Monday, 23 August 2010
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved capacity uprates of 2% and 1.64% respectively to Northern States Power's Prairie Island units 1 and 2. The uprates will be achieved through more accurate feedwater flow measurements which will see unit 1's capacity increase from 551 MWe to 560 MWe and unit 2 from 545 MWe to 554 MWe. Excel Energy subsidiary Northern States Power intends to implement the uprate to the two pressurised water reactor (PWR) units in February 2011.
