Shaw gets Haiyang turbine island support contract

The Shaw Group announced on 25 March that it had signed a contract with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute (SDEPCI) to provide engineering service support for the turbine island of the Haiyang nuclear power plant to be constructed in Shandong province, China. The value of the contract was not disclosed. In July 2007, Shaw and Westinghouse Electric Co - its AP1000 consortium partner - signed definitive contracts to provide two AP1000 reactors at Haiyang and two more at Sanmen in Zhejiang province. The contract with SDEPCI extends the scope of Shaw's involvement with the Haiyang project. The new contract includes development of the conceptual and basic designs for the turbine islands for each of the two AP1000s at Haiyang.
