Tomari 3 start-up set for October

Friday, 23 January 2009

A new reactor will start up at Japan's Tomari power plant in October this year. The unit will be an 3-loop Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for plant owner Hokkaido Electric Power Company. It will produce 912 MWe when it reaches commercial operation, alongside two other PWRs at the site. Construction started in November 2003. [Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Tomari 3 would be an Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor (APWR) built by MHI]
