Upgrade completed at Olkiluoto 2
Friday, 10 June 2011
Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) announced that it has completed a major refurbishment at unit 2 of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, which has raised the reactor's output by some 20 MWe. The uprate - which brings the boiling water reactor's capacity to some 880 MWe - was conducted during the unit's annual maintenance outage, which lasted 29 days. Refurbishment work included the replacement of low-pressure turbines, inner isolation valves in the main steam pipes, main sea water pumps and some of the low-voltage switchgears. TVO described the project as "the most extensive annual maintenance outage ever carried out" at the plant. A similar upgrade was completed at unit 1 of the Olkiluoto plant in May 2010.
