An investigation is underway into why a storage tank at the Fukushima Daiichi site overflowed, leading to a spill of partially treated radioactive water. Clean-up of this water, which does not appear to have flowed into the sea, is underway.

Consistency required for Fukushima return
Decontamination near the Fukushima Daiichi plant is progressing more efficiently, with convergence on measures that will support a return to evacuated areas. An IAEA team encouraged experts to communicate that radiation dose rates below 20 mSv per year are acceptable.

No restart for undamaged Fukushima reactors
The two undamaged units at the Fukushima Daiichi plant - units 5 and 6 - are to be decommissioned, plant operator Tepco has confirmed. They may be used as mock-ups for testing technologies for inspecting and cleaning up the four damaged reactors there.
