South Ukraine unit 1 gets 10-year extension
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine has said unit 1 of the South Ukraine nuclear power plant can operate safely for a further 10 years.

Sendai units to operate for another 20 years
Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority has approved the operation of units 1 and 2 at Kyushu Electric Power Company's Sendai nuclear power plant beyond 40 years. Under incoming legislation, the units may be able to operate beyond 60 years.

Repair work under way at Krško nuclear power plant
The Krško nuclear power plant was shut down in early October after the discovery of a leak in the primary circuit connection system pipeline. Operator Nuklearna elektrarna Krško says that following further investigation and analysis, a decision has been taken to replace the complete pipeline segment from the reactor vessel to the first valve.

Another Zaporizhzhia unit to be put into hot shutdown
The International Atomic Energy Agency said it has been informed that a second reactor at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine is being brought into hot shutdown in order to provide hot water and district heating over the coming winter.

IAEA staff get access to roof of Zaporizhzhia unit 2
International Atomic Energy Agency experts at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have inspected the rooftop of the second unit and did not observe any mines or explosives, but continue to seek access to the rooftops of all six reactor buildings and to the turbine halls.

Holtec applies to restart shuttered Palisades plant
The Palisades plant in Michigan could become the first successfully restarted nuclear power plant in the USA following Holtec International's submission of a filing with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to formally begin the process of seeking reauthorisation of power operations at the plant, which was shut down in May 2022.

IAEA seeks access to all Zaporizhzhia turbine halls on same day
International Atomic Energy Agency experts at the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant "continue to request" access to all the six turbine halls "one after the other to be able confirm the absence of any materials and equipment" that contravenes the agreed safety and security principles.

Framatome to commercialise digital twin-based diagnostics
Framatome has been awarded a USD1 million contract for the second phase of the digital twin-based Diagnostics for Nuclear Auxiliary Systems project to commercialise automated diagnostic technology for nuclear plant auxiliary systems, which it says will lead to savings in operation and maintenance costs for the current light-water reactor fleet.

New Slovak reactor reaches full power
The power output of unit 3 at the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia has been increased from 90% to 100% as energy start-up tests continue, Slovenské elektrárne announced.
