Vermont Yankee fuel transfer brought forward
Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee has announced plans to start transferring used nuclear fuel from the shut-down Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant from wet to dry storage in 2017, two years earlier than originally planned.

Regulator approves Indian Point 3 operation
Entergy can continue to operate Indian Point 3 while it seeks licence renewal, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has told the company. The plant's initial 40-year licence had been due to expire on 12 December.

Licence extension for Davis-Besse
The Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Ohio can operate until 2037 after the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission renewed the reactor's operating licence for a further 20 years.

Second lawsuit challenges Virginia uranium ban
A group led by Virginia Uranium Inc yesterday filed a second lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Virginia's moratorium on uranium mining. A suit filed by the same plaintiffs earlier this year is still ongoing.

As part of its ongoing asset rationalization strategy, Energy Fuels has sold several non-core uranium projects in the USA to enCore Energy Corporation. Energy Fuels plans to concentrate on its higher-grade, lower-cost projects.

Laramide to acquire New Mexico uranium projects
Laramide Resources Ltd is to acquire a portfolio of New Mexico uranium properties including the Church Rock and Crownpoint projects from Uranium Resources Inc for a total of $12.5 million under a letter of intent signed by the two companies.

US regulator ready for new reactor challenges
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) could license a non-light water reactor under its current regulatory framework, but needs input from the nuclear industry and the US Department of Energy (DOE) to optimize its planning and resources, commission chairman Stephen Burns has told the American Nuclear Society (ANS).

China-USA cooperation agreement renewed
A new agreement formalizing nuclear cooperation between China and the USA and establishing the terms for nuclear trade between the countries has entered into force. The agreement replaces a previous version which had been due to expire at the end of the year.
