DoE concludes WIPP release was preventable
While the cause of the radiological release at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico is still being investigated, a preliminary report by the US Department of Energy (DoE) has already identified corrective actions that should be taken.

Investigators enter WIPP
Workers have re-entered the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico for the first time since a radiological event occurred there in mid-February. Future teams will travel deeper into the facility towards the suspected source of the release.

EDF's emergency response force in place

Workers to re-enter WIPP
A recovery process has started at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) with the aim of resuming operations. Seventeen workers have so far tested positive for extremely low levels of contamination following a radiological event at the facility last month.
