Westinghouse Electric Company of the USA and Hyundai Engineering & Construction of South Korea have signed a teaming agreement to pursue AP1000 technology opportunities in Sweden and Finland.

Actions being taken by various countries to meet the target of tripling global nuclear power generating capacity by 2050 were discussed by panellists during a session at World Nuclear Symposium 2024. Cooperation will be key to meeting the target, they agreed.

Sweden's Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari has announced the launch of an investigation to abolish the country's ban on uranium mining. The move was welcomed by Australia-based Aura Energy, which hopes to extract uranium as a by-product from its 100%-owned Häggån polymetallic project in Sweden.

Nuvia, a subsidiary of France's Vinci construction group, has been awarded a contract by Vattenfall to remove, inspect and sort the radioactive and other materials currently inside the reactor buildings of units 1 and 2 at the Ringhals nuclear power plant in Sweden.
