Integrated head package in place at Sanmen 1
The integrated head package has been installed on top of the reactor pressure vessel of unit 1 of the Sanmen nuclear power plant in China's Zhejiang province. Sanmen 1 is expected to be the first Westinghouse AP1000 to begin operating.

Chinese collaboration for accelerator-driven systems
An agreement to develop accelerator-driven systems has been signed between China General Nuclear and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Such systems could transmutate used nuclear fuel or run subcritical nuclear reactors.

Fourth Hongyanhe unit achieves first criticality
Unit 4 of the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province has achieved a sustained chain reaction for the first time. The reactor is expected to enter commercial operation later this year.

First Taishan EPR completes cold tests
Cold function tests have been completed at unit 1 of the Taishan nuclear power plant in China's Guangdong province. The unit is expected to start up in the first half of next year and will be the first EPR reactor to begin operating.

China confident in nuclear emergency preparedness
China's State Council has today issued its first white paper on nuclear energy, detailing policies and measures to boost nuclear emergency preparedness and promoting nuclear security. Nuclear safety, it says, has been strengthened in parallel with development of its nuclear industry.
