New delay in start-up of Finnish EPR
The start of regular electricity generation at the Olkiluoto 3 EPR has been pushed back by a further four months and is now expected to begin in January 2020, Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj announced today.

Rosatom launches annealing technology for VVER-1000 units
Rosatom announced yesterday it has extended the service life of unit 1 of its Balakovo nuclear power plant in the Saratov region of Russia by using thermal annealing on the VVER-1000's reactor pressure vessel.

Bruce 6 refurbishment
good for January 2020 start
Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator has verified Bruce Power's final cost estimate for refurbishment of the first of six units at the Bruce nuclear power plant and confirmed that the price of power will be lower than originally estimated. The IESO's approval means the Major Component Replacement project at Bruce unit 6 can begin as planned in January 2020.

Sanmen 2 AP1000 enters commercial operation
Unit 2 of the Sanmen nuclear power plant in China's Zhejiang province has completed 168 hours of full-power continuous operation. The unit is now deemed to be the third AP1000 reactor to enter commercial operation.

First reactor on Russia's floating plant starts up
One of the two reactors aboard Russia's first floating nuclear power plant,
Akademik Lomonosov
, has achieved a sustained chain reaction for the first time. The second reactor will be started up and tests carried out before the plant is towed to Pevek next year.
