Swedish ship makes first shipment
SKB's new vessel for transporting used nuclear fuel and radioactive waste by sea, the
M/S Sigrid
, has made its first shipment. It replaces the smaller

, which had been in service since 1982.

Credible options for UK plutonium disposal
Both the Prism and Enhanced Candu 6 reactors are "credible options" for managing the UK's plutonium stockpile, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has concluded. However, the government's preferred option remains reuse as mixed-oxide (MOX) fuel.

Global Laser Enrichment will enter talks with the US Department of Energy after its proposal to build and operate a laser enrichment facility at shut down Paducah plant was selected. Off-specification inventory will be processed by Areva.

Reviving Yucca Mountain
The US nuclear regulator has directed its staff to complete work on the safety evaluation report for the Yucca Mountain geologic repository. Meanwhile, a court has awarded over $235 million of damages to three utilities affected by federal failure to fulfil used fuel disposal commitments.
