Cernavoda 2 connected to grid

[Nuclearelectrica, 7 August] Romania's Cernavoda 2 nuclear power reactor was connected to the grid at 5.21 pm on 7 August, utility Nuclearelectrica announced. The 655 MWe pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) of the Candu 6 design, supplied by Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL), was connected at 25% power. Once tests are completed, output of the unit will progressively be increased to 50%, then 75%, and finally 100%. It is scheduled to enter commercial operation by the end of September. The unit achieved first criticality on 6 May.
