Mott MacDonald to advise UK government on Sizewell C

Under the contract - valued at between GBP3.64 and GBP4.84 million (USD5-6.7 million) - Mott MacDonald will provide expert advice, guidance and support to enable government to effectively fulfil its oversight roles as shareholder and policy sponsor of Sizewell C during construction of the project. The contract will run until 30 November 2028.

"The technical services provided by Mott MacDonald will underpin the government's oversight, help manage project complexities and channel successful delivery of Sizewell C, enabling Britain's transition to clean, secure energy in support of the nation's net-zero ambitions," the company said.

"Sizewell C stands as a key initiative for the UK, supporting both the achievement of net zero targets and the nation's energy security. We're proud to play a role in this significant project."

The plan is for the estimated GBP38 billion Sizewell C plant to feature two EPR reactors producing 3.2 GW of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of around six million homes for at least 60 years. It would be a similar design to the two-unit plant being built at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, with the aim of building it more quickly and at lower cost as a result of the experience gained from what is the first new nuclear construction project in the UK for about three decades. A final investment decision for the Sizewell C project was taken in July last year.
