Take-up of Centrica's shares

Underwriters are still looking for buyers to take up about 8% of Centrica's recent share offer. The UK gas supplier, power generator and distributor issued almost 1.4 billion new shares at the end of October, and gave existing shareholders the right to buy three of these for every eight shares they already own. Just over 91% of this option was taken up by the 12 December deadline. The move is supposed to raise £2.2 billion ($3.3 billion) of the £3.2 billion ($4.9 billion) required for Centrica to take a 25% stake in British Energy from recent buyer Electricité de France.
