TVO submits EIA program for Olkiluoto 4

Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) has submitted its environmental impact assessment (EIA) program to the country's Ministry of Trade and Industry for a possible fourth reactor at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant. The EIA would consider the construction of a 1000-1800 MWe unit at the site. The Olkiluoto site currently has two reactors in operation and a third under construction. The EIA report for a fourth unit is planned for completion in February 2008, while the EIA procedure concerning the project in scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2008. TVO said that if a subsequent decision to build the reactor is made, construction would begin around 2013, with operation starting around 2018. In March, Fortum also announced that it would conduct an EIA for a third unit at its Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland.
