30 June 2008

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a request to increase the generating capacity of units 1 and 2 of the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant by approximately 4.5% each. Luminant Generation Co. (formerly Energy Futures), which operates Comanche Peak for Texas Utilities (TXU), intends to implement the changes during refuelling outages. Unit 1 is to be be uprated in autumn 2008 and will see generating capacity increase from approximately 1210 to 1259 MWe and unit 2, the capacity of which will rise from an estimated 1208 to 1245 MWe, will be uprated in autumn 2009. Comanche Peak is thought to be a likely site for TXU's plans for new nuclear build in the 2015-20 timeframe.
