Monday, 28 February 2011
China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) has announced the signing of an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) for Tianwan units 5 and 6 with China Nuclear Power Engineering Co (CNPE) and Jiangsu Nuclear Power Co. CNPE will be the project contractor. Two Russian-designed VVER-1000 reactors, constructed under a cooperation agreement between Russia and China, are already in operation at Tianwan and work on two more is due to begin in 2012-3. Units 5 and 6 are likely to be VVER-1200s and would make up the third phase of the plant, although it is not clear when construction is likely to begin.
