Fluor, GEH team up for Olkiluoto 4

11 November 2011

Fluor and GE-Hitachi (GEH) have deepened ties by signing a project development memorandum of understanding for cooperation in a planned new reactor in Finland. Fluor will provide Engineering Procurement and Construction services if a GEH reactor is selected for Teollisuuden Voima Oyj's (TVO's) Olkiluoto 4 project. The Finnish government ratified a decision in principle for the new reactor in July 2010 and TVO is currently considering different designs for the unit, which it expects to enter operation by 2020. Under consideration are Areva's EPR, GEH's ESBWR, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power's APR 1400, Mitsubishi's APWR and Toshiba's ABWR. In September, GEH and Fluor signed a similar agreement for potential new build projects in Poland, which plans to supply some 15% of electricity from nuclear power by 2030.
